Music Theatre

Every year, approximately one hundred and fifty students may earn a double credit in music and drama while pursuing a balanced course of study in vocal music, drama and movement. This program is unique in that our junior and senior grades take classes and perform together, creating wonderful opportunities for mentorship and modeling.

Workshops by performance professionals are an integral part of the program, providing signifi cant academic enrichment. These ties to the professional community have also resulted in opportunities for our students in film, musical theatre and radio jingles.

Wexford students have shared the stage with such notables as Colm Wilkinson (‘The Phantom of the Opera’), Michael Burgess (‘Les Miserables’; ‘Man of La Mancha’), Donny Osmond (‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat’), Michael Belt (‘Showboat’) and the cast of ‘Rent’. As well, our students represent us in dinner theatres, theme parks, on television, with talent agencies and in many other related entertainment fields. The students have performed live on CBC and TSN and have graced the stages of The New Yorker Theatre, the Metro Convention Centre, and Mel Lastman Square. Music Theatre students have also participated in many charity events, such as the Night of a Thousand Dinners benefit in aid of landmine removal, and the Hospital for Sick Children’s Telethon.

Two in-house productions, the celebration of dance, drama and music show and a musical in May, are mounted each year. Since the inaugural year, 1991, this program’s performance credits include: ‘Kiss Me Kate’, ‘Th e Music Man’, ‘Anne of Green Gables’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Bye-Bye Birdie’, ‘Fiddler On The Roof’, ‘Oliver’, ‘A Chorus Line’, ‘Hamlet’ and ‘Godspell’.
